Help Wanted: Teen Advisory Board

If you have opinions about books, magazines, movies, and activities, the Teen Advisory Board may be the job for you.

Teen Advisory Boards (TABs) help librarians choose the materials purchased by the library.  TABs also plan programs, such as movie nights, game nights, and teen contests.  Sometimes, TAB members may be called upon to create displays, help design library advertisements, or volunteer as computer lab or hall monitors.

TAB members could even attend occasional meeting of the Library Board of Trustees, to act as teen delegates and share ideas with the library’s governing body.Overall, TAB members will help create an incredible library for teen patrons.

Space is limited.  If you are interested in joining TAB, contact Stacey at sclsls@pld.com, 544-2301, or ask for her at the library.

Note to Parents

Parents:

Your children are important to us at the Stevens County Library.  We are proud that you as parents feel you can entrust them to our care during after-school hours.  We are pleased that we can provide a safe environment in climate-controlled conditions.

With the beginning of the new school year, the library has been inundated with school children immediately after school lets out in the afternoon.  Most children conduct themselves in an appropriate manner, working on homework, checking out books, working in the computer lab, playing some of the board games the library has available, or visiting quietly.  There are a few, however, that need a refresher course on the Stevens County Library Code of Conduct for Public Library Behavior.  We ask that you remind your children of some rules of the library.

·    All food and drinks should be consumed outside the library building.

·    Audio devices (including computers in the lab) may be played with headphones.  If it is loud enough to be heard by another person, it is too loud for the library.

·    Ringing cell phones and cell phone conversations should be taken outside the building.  If you need to contact your child at the library, call 544-2301, give your name, phone number where you can be reached, and the child with whom you wish to speak.  As time permits, we will make every attempt to locate the child and relay your message.  Phones in the front hallway are for contact purposes only.  Please attempt to keep telephone conversations under two minutes, and conduct them quietly.

·    Wheeled shoes, skateboards, scooters, etc. cannot be used in the library.

·    Bicycles should be parked in the bike rack on the south side of the library.

·    Dangerous, disruptive or threatening behavior (bullying), and/or abusive or obscene language toward staff or other patrons of any age will not be tolerated.

·    No running, tag, hide and seek, play fighting, etc.  The library is open to people of every age after school, and the safety of all our patrons is paramount.

·    The library is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

If staff intervention is required for violations of the Stevens County Library Code of Conduct for Public Library Behavior, a member of the library staff may:

·   Ask your child to leave the library property.  This includes the front portico, lawn, and seating area on the north side of the building.

·   Contact the police department.  If library staff must contact the police department, additional penalties may be incurred.

Verso Access from Home

Stevens County Library patrons can now access our library system from home.  Patrons may check accounts, register for a weekly email of items checked out, reserve items for later pick-up, search Kansas Library Card databases, and much, much more.

Pop-up blocker settings should be adjusted to accommodate access to all features in Verso.  In Internet Explorer, go to “Tools” and select “Pop-up Blocker” and then “Pop-up Blocker Settings.”  In the “exceptions” box type this web address:  swkls-verso.auto-graphics.com and click on the “Add” button.  This allows the patron access to the Verso system (which includes some pop-up screens.)  For additional assistance, a “Help” button is located at the upper right-hand corner of the Verso screen, or you may call the library.
